Demand Media is seeking a Freelance Associate Designer with an eye for design and experience designing with typography, illustration, or photos. You should be efficient, organized, and have an interest in infographics.
We are looking for passionate individual who will thrive in a supportive, collaborative, yet fast-paced interactive environment. You will:
Create graphics with type and/or photos for social promotions and other interactive visual content
Work with internal teams, external designers, and clients and be part of projects that range from social media graphics, illustration, infographics, and other online visual formats
Support Designer and Creative Director in managing other freelance designers including correspondence, critical feedback and paperwork
Give and solicit open and honest feedback as part of the design process to other freelancers and the larger in-house team
Qualifications:
• Experience at advertising agency, top brand or publisher designing across a variety of media
• Design skills: You can conceptualize and offer design solutions while following style guides or maintaining visual branding, and you have an understanding of design within social and editorial contexts
• Technical skills: You can execute your design ideas using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) with attention to detail, and you have a solid grasp of how to produce art for web
• People skills: You’re able to collaborate with and present design decisions to editors, photo editors, designers, product managers, and account teams
• You’re as comfortable (and organized) working with existing design files as you are with your own files designed from scratch
Requirements:
• BA or BFA in Graphic Design or professional equivalent
• 2-3 years designing graphics for social media, web, or print
• Portfolio featuring communication design and/or illustration with good sense of typography
• Adobe skills including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Ability to work within constraints, while maintaining consistency throughout designs
• Comfortable working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• A strong interest in infographics and data visualization
• You MUST be available for work on-site in Santa Monica.
