Publication Layout and Design
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) invites you to submit a proposal to perform publication design and layout services for NED’s Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA).
Organization background:
NED is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. Each year, NED makes more than 1,000 grants to support the projects of non-governmental groups abroad who are working for democratic goals in more than 90 countries.
Scope of work (SOW):
NED is seeking to hire a designer as a consultant for the next 12 months to design and lay out CIMA reports. CIMA produces approximately one report a month, although there could be more during particularly busy periods. Reports range in length from approximately 8 pages for short form pieces to approximately 25 pages for long form pieces. The reports will be sent in their final draft Microsoft Word form for layout and design to the consultant, and the turn around time is expected to be no longer than two weeks. The design and layout will be done in accordance with CIMA’s existing style guide and within our existing InDesign template, which will be provided to the consultant. In addition to formatting text, the consultant will be expected to develop graphical elements, photos, and other illustrative content to enhance the substance of the reports in consultation with CIMA’s research manager and editor. These design elements will require the designer to develop an understanding of the subject matter contained in the report. A sample report as well as a sample Microsoft Word draft is provided for your reference.
Format of Proposal:
Proposals must be submitted in a PDF document on letterhead, signed, and include the following information:
1. Description/background of company/individual (including dba if applicable)
2. Price per final formatted page based on CIMA’s existing formatting. (please contact Paul Rothman with questions)
3. Technical expertise (i.e. years of experience performing graphic design services)
4. Individual/company resume
5. At least 3 examples of previous work
6. At least 3 references (contact information) from prior clients
7. Any other relevant terms/pertinent information
In order to facilitate a fair evaluation of all proposals, all proposals must adhere to the requirements outlined in this RFP in order to be considered. Therefore, any proposals received that are not in the required format will not be considered.
If selected for publication design services, a one-year contractual agreement will be established based on the pricing structure included in the proposal.
