Job Description
As a member of the Quality Assurance (QA) team, the Color Manager is responsible for leading the department in day to day operations and providing technical support for the brand. This position involves managing and mentoring the Color Assistants and Analysts, monitoring timing on projects and any necessary freelance assistance, providing technical expertise and problem solving, leading the team in piloting emerging color technologies, and participating in company-wide IT initiatives that involve color. The Color Manager works closely with color hardware/software providers and the supplier base to identify system processes that will create efficiencies for the Color department.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and allocate resources to effectively accomplish departmental objectives.
Coordinate and supervise team objectives to ensure their timely completion and desired outcome.
Evaluate and improve the efficiency of departmental processes and procedures to maximize speed and quality.
Collect departmental and Supplier performance metrics and create action plans where required.
Evaluate emerging color technologies and run trials with vendors.
Troubleshoot color QA issues.
Plan staffing levels; work with HR to recruit, interview, and hire as needed.
Coach, mentor and develop Color team members.
Train new Analysts on departmental processes and procedures.
Provide technical color expertise for the Color Analysts.
Complete performance plans and conduct performance appraisals for the Color team.
Job Requirements
7-10 years relevant experience at a medium or large-sized company, preferably in apparel.
BA/BS degree in Textiles, Apparel Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Color Science, color evaluation, and/or textile dyeing and finishing experience or training strongly preferred.
International business experience desired, involving tracking and organizing information, and communicating effectively with overseas partners.
Proven people management and/or leadership experience.
Proficient PC skills (Word, Outlook, and PLM/PDM).
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Good analytical and mathematical skills.
Aptitude for systems and systematic work.
Our North Face and Jansport offices are currently located in Alameda, CA; Smartwool is located in Steamboat, CO, Eagle Creek is located in Carlsbad, CA and Altra Running is located in Logan, UT. All positions at these brands will ultimately be located in Denver, CO.
