Responsibilities

Acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of the technical and functional requirements of a given product
Perform in-depth qualitative research, including: reviewing existing research, planning research goals, performing qualitative interviews and co-creative design research, as well as analyzing research observations
Synthesize large amounts of information, distill it down to key findings and argue a point of view persuasively and memorably by leveraging a variety of media, reporting key findings to Design Manager
Develop 3D models of parts and assemblies at a concept level; incorporate appropriate kinematics or ensure handoff to appropriate technical staff
Engage in brainstorm sessions and produce meaningful ideas and concepts
Conduct market, technological and user research and provide summary reports
Maintain the core functionality of a given product as it progresses into production
Create presentations from complex data sets
Create presentation renderings from digital models
Set and maintain development schedules
Develop innovative patentable mechanisms for Humanscale products
Manage the construction of rapid prototypes
Document innovations for HS patent attorneys
Give direction to Junior Level Staff
 Receive direction from senior HSDS staff and execute accordingly
 Work with ID Manager to ensure a consistent look and feel across product ranges
 Interface with HSDS Engineers to ensure conceptual work has solid engineering underpinnings
 Continually seek out opportunities for improvement in HSDS procedures
Continually seek out opportunities for improvement in Humanscale products
Participate in an overall positive and professional group dynamic
 Maintain a courteous professional and positive interaction with all other HS departments
Heavy interaction with our design and development counterparts at various HS vendors
Occasional International travel to interface with vendors

 
 
Qualifications

Burning curiosity about people, emerging trends, technology
Ability to present complex information in an organized, easily useable form
Ability to be a big picture thinker, without losing sight of critical details
Exceptional understanding of complex 3-Dimensional Form
Outstanding command of 3D modeling technique
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop
Proficiency in SolidWorks is required.
Proficiency in Alias or other surfacing software considered a plus.
Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences through various media, including:

Clear and concise language
Well developed drawing skills
Digital image manipulation
Short, clear and professional email

An innate desire to master new problems thoroughly and quickly
Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience
Minimum 3 years experience in product development
