POSITION SUMMARY:

Full-time Knit Designer for Calvin Klein:


The Designer I – Knits will assist to execute and design product on a global creative season direction and business needs under the guidance of the Senior Knit Designer. Candidate will develop and produce jersy-knits as per product strategy for multiple businesses from concept through to bulk. Focus will be on menswear.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Work with Senior Designer and design team to research; develop concepts, colors, fabrics, and silhouette designs based on the global creative direction.
  • Proactively Research and identify trends and techniques that align with the Calvin Klein Aesthetic. 
  • Create a knits / jersey collection each season focusing on updates to commercial core.
  • Translate knits / jersey trends into cohesive collections together with the Design Leadership.
  • Create a knits / jersey collection each season focusing on updates to commercial core product whilst also adding newness, novelty and innovation.
  • Exhibits flexibility to accommodate emerging opportunities in the business and areas of acceleration in the calendar.
  • Preparing all sketches (2D & 3D) for divisional digital presentations and focus on the follow up of each style.
  • Knowledge knit and development on seasonal needs and price points.
  • Innovating yarn mixing, stitch development, modern approaches to knitting techniques and logo development.
  • Develop design detail pages with instructions for garment development samples.
  • Participate and correct technical details/sketches from fittings.
  • Assembles and maintains presentation boards for meetings.
  • Organize and maintain design development including artwork, trims, fabric swatches, and protos.
  • Manage and adhere to a Time In-Action Calendar.
  • Ability to work across multiple apparel seasons.
  • Prepare all confirmed styles to be digitalized, with garment worksheets and PLM completed to a high standard.
  • Needs to create strong cross functional and vendor relationships.
  • Working closely and communicating daily on challenges and changes that arise during the development of styles. Partner with the Product Developer to ensure a smooth work flow each season.
  • Work closely with Tech and Product Development teams on garment fittings, based on block systems and new seasonal complex styles. Ensure all styles are to the highest possible standard and help find solutions to any problems that may come up during the fitting process.
  • Responsible to follow up on selected sourcing and fabrics each season with the Product Developer. Supports and partners with the Product Developer to execute each style.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Experience:

5+ years design experience in menswear knits. High level fabric knowledge of knits / jersey qualities, plus a strong technical understanding of knit / jersey outerwear fits and constructions.

        

Education:       

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Fashion Design. Concentration in men's knit.

Skills: 

  • Ability to multi-task, think outside the box, be open-minded and optimistic. Strong understanding of knits / jersey product is a must.
  • Strong understanding of cut and sew including layer 2 knits, jerseys, functional knits, and fashion / novelty knits.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong eye for trends and current industry news/development.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience in Centric is a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects with adherence to deadlines.
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing trends of business and corporate strategy.
  • Work well in a team environment, utilizing strong communication skills.
