Fire Alarm Designer Jobs description
Fire alarm designers are responsible for designing complex and large fire alarm projects. Their main aim is to maximize the safety of a building and the people inside.A fire alarm designer's job includes designing, programming, and providing technical support for fire alarm systems; liaising with the project team on the amendments of drawings and preparing for installations; and performing site supervision of system installation.
Going into detail, a fire alarm designer takes into account the layout of the building including number of levels, heat sources, and exits; and he/she also considers the level of complexity required for each particular building. He/she reviews the specifications on each property and determines where the fire alarms should go to maximize their efficiency and allow for the greatest safety assurances. He/she will then make a drawing of the property showing exits, proposed locations of fire and smoke alarms, as well as any wiring or electrical needs that may result from this installation. In the case of a larger public building, fire alarm designers work in tandem with licensed electricians who will handle the wiring and ensure that the installation is up to code.
Prior experience in design of low voltage systems, access controls, CCTV and Nurse/Intercom systems, and experience with local, state, and national codes and standards provide an edge to interested applicants.
