Game Designer Jobs
A game designer has to devise, document, review, revise, and communicate the development projects vision to the development team and all other interested parties. A game designer's job includes research, documentation, communication, level design, mapping, and scripting.
Research enables a game designer to create a fantasy world that is anchored in some form of reality. For instance, in a project that is a historically accurate war game, the game designer will have to research weapons, environment, vehicles, uniforms, military tactics and the history of the actual encounter.
Bulk of a game designer's job is to create and maintain the design documentation. This has all the design elements which include the game play design, the technical design document, the game play flowchart, the script, the character designs, set designs, storyboards and other visualisations, the visual assets list, and the audio assets list.
The game designer then communicates the vision for the game to the rest of the team. This is followed by level design, mapping, scripting – the part of the designer's job where the actual game is made. Game worlds/levels are defined. Objects and non-player characters are placed within the environment, AI/scripting defined, triggers for FMV or other key events are set and in-game variables adjusted.
While ''the idea'' for a game may come from anyone in the team, it is the game designer's job to take that idea and expand it until the team has enough ideas to fill an entire game.
